  2. I believe I have a White Ginger with black stand, shoes, outfit, sunglass, but no box. The marking on her left butt cheek is #3. Also marked on her inner thigh is NV226. Do these markings help place the date or verify that it is a white ginger? Another site looked like the #3 could mean it is a 1960 doll??? She has pale pink lips, red nail polish, teal eye liner, hollow body, Japan on foot, blonde (somewhat oxidized). Says Barbie R Pats Pend 1958 (Roman Num) By Mattel Inc. Trying to positively identify this doll. Confused about the terms "Lucy Lips". Does pale pink lips equate to Bubble gum lips then if WG??

    1. Here's a link from my website with detailed information about the white Ginger. Also the term Lucy Lips refers to big red lips.

  3. Hello,
I'm looking for information on the Living Eli dolls. What is the difference between Iki Iki Eli and Sun Sun Eli? The only Sun Sun I've seen online was sold on eBay and was identicial to Iki Iki.
If you don't know, would you happen to have the name of a site or person who would help me out?
Thanks very much, love your blog!

  5. Yes. The dolls were made in Korea from 1974 - 1976. Only the dolls in 1974 had the sunglasses. Here is the link to my website that shows the information on the Korea marked dolls.

  14. I’m trying to identify a vintage barbie with Japan stamped on right foot, stamp on right bottom is Barbie Pats Pend MCMLVIII by Mattel, Inc. (Hard to read, stamp is faded in some areas, I used a loupe to view it.) Light red color on lips, finger nails & toe nails. Legs do not bend and waist does not turn. Brunette hair with curls at bottom, hair length to bottom of neck. Blue eyes, black eye liner with real eye lashes. No earrings or holes for earrings. Any help would be appreciated!

  18. I have prototype Barbie's in the original white box with hand written marker description and note inside stating it is a hand made sample and I am trying to find an actual value of the dolls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you...

    1. Prices can vary. It all depends on the doll, box, condition etc. You should get a premium price as this is very rare item. I think the best place to watch are the sold listings on eBay. They do come up from time to time, but again, it's a rare item so it could take a while to find one.

  19. I have a bend leg skipper with Japan from heel to toe on both feet . Is that common?

    ReplyDelete
  20. They aren't common, but I wouldn't say rare either. Some people believe these were early sample dolls, but personally I don't think so.

  22. Did all of the original Sunset Malibu dolls come with the same sunglasses?

I recently bought a pair advertised as being for Malibu PJ, but they are a dark purple, and the lenses are completely flat, not rounded outward. If you know what I mean.

    1. It doesn't sound like you got correct glasses for your PJ. They should be a light purple and not flat. I have never seen what you described on PJ. I hope this helps.

    1. Sorry I missed this! Yes some have two tags. One is the normal black and white tag and the other is a smaller white tag. Some have letter/numbers on the white tag. Can't remember if some have the word Japan or not.

  25. I have 1968 talking Barbie minus the legs, not sure where they went. Can you get replacement legs, is it worth anything, mute, no clothes, hair is almost mint, same colour as yours

    1. You can sometimes find replacement legs on eBay. If her hair is mint, and everything else looks good, I would say she has some value.

Grazie mille!

  31. I found a 1959 #2 blonde ponytail barbie. She's wearing Resort Set #963. It wasn't in the original box but is in good condition. Shes missing one heel & other accessories. I was wondering what value would be & where would be best place to sell???

    ReplyDelete
  32. Value depends on condition, but if she's a #2 she's valuable. You can compare your doll with others by going to the sold listings under dolls to find the value. eBay is a great place to sell your doll (be sure to insure it!).

  34. What is the difference in the body between a Walking Barbie and a Free Moving Barbie?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Free Moving Barbie has a mechanism on her upper back which you can pull out to make her move. Walking Barbie does not. They both have different markings as well.

  35. This might sound like an odd question, but I’ve always wondered if there are some Barbie dolls with non squishy heads. I remember having lots of vintage 80s ken dolls with harder heads that weren’t your typical soft vinyl head, which put me to think if there were hard head Barbie variants out there. I also had the kenner bionic woman line, and her head was rather hard aswell so just a thought I’ve always had as a kid, was wondering if you would possibly know.

  36. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone who is experienced in collecting has any good tips on bringing Quick Curl Barbie's hair back to life. Are their any products or techniques to try? Would appreciate any advice. Thank you so much.

  37. I am wondering if anyone can tell me more about the stamp on the bottom of the #1 doll where the (Japan) is in a box on the heel instead of lengthwise from toe to heel. I have two #3 dolls with that same stamp, I am wondering how common or rare this is. Thank you for any info.

  39. After having purchased several white pearl necklaces I have noticed that some are shiny and bright while others have a rather dull finish. It appears that some might be made with glass beads while others with plastic beads. Is that correct or have the dull ones just lost the gloss.

  40. I was hoping you all could help me identify a Barbie doll that only has a Q on her neck and no other markings

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hello and I was hoping you could help me identify this Malibu Barbie doll. The rim of the head reads C 1963 MATTEL INC KOREA. I’m assuming a reproduction because it says 1963, however I assumed the repos did not have rim writing and the writing should be in the back of the head. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and all of the information you have made available here. Thank you!

  42. Hello, I have a vintage prototype ooak moon over Miami barbie doll. She is in perfect condition and never been out of the box. I haven't taken her out to look for any identification marks. Don't want to damage anything. She's in a unmarked black and white zebra gift wrapped style box.the only identification is a design by waldo tm. tag on her left wrist and the box is signed by waldo in a silver type paint pen. Appraiser can't give me any information about it because they have never seen one. I can send you pictures if it's something you would like to see. It was given to my family in the mid 90's from a elderly lady that worked for Mattel. Thank you very much!

  43. Hello. I have a puzzle I thought you might be able to help me figure out. I have a yellow haired color magic barbie. Head looks mint, but the body has the 1962 ponytail markings, Barbie PATS PEND C MCMLVIII by MATTEL INC. Either the head was switched, which isn't apparent, or did they maybe use this body initially or when they ran short of the knee bend body? Thank you for any response you might have.

  44. Correction. I meant to say the same patent markings as on Ponytail #5 and #6. Thank you!
